Mengyuan Zhu

I am a Ph.D. student at the National University of Singapore, working with Prof. Janghee Cho in the JEDI Lab.

My research lies at the intersection of human-centered AI, responsible AI, and visualization. My current work examines how young people can be empowered to critically engage with and audit generative AI, and how human-centered tools can support these practices. I use participatory design to inform system development and evaluate these systems in use through mixed qualitative and quantitative methods.

Previously, I conducted research on empirically grounded visualization system design at UNC/CU VisuaLab under the supervision of Prof. Danielle Albers Szafir, and worked on AI-assisted tools for programming instruction with Prof. Prasun Dewan during my undergrad.
